Potty Training: week 1

We started potty training Kallon this past Monday. On the Saturday before we went to Walmart and let Kallon pick out juice and a few treats that he wanted for rewards. He chose pri sun juice pouches (capri sun), pink lemonade, M&M's, honey bears (gummi bears), and I threw in some chocolate covered rasins(which he will not eat). Anyway Monday morning we woke up and I have him sit on the potty, nothing. All day he sat on the potty in front of the t.v. for an hour at a time and nothing happened. Although I did make the mistake of putting a diaper back on him after every attempt on the potty. So everytime I went to put him on the potty his diaper was soaking wet! He only went peepee in the potty one time Monday. Tueday morning same story so I said the heck with it I don't care if he is potty trained and I let him run around the house naked. This seemed to work. I let him bring the potty in the front room again for a while and he was on and off of it all day, nothing happened. There were many, many accidents on the carpet but good thing it's just an apartment we rent! Finally Tuesday night he went peepee once. He was so excited he started jumping up and down before he was all the finished and sprayed our entertainment center and t.v....gross. Wednesday I let him wear his Lightning McQueen big boy underwear and told him if he peed in them Lightning would be sad. He wore those around all day with a tee shirt and I would remind him every 2o minutes or so that he needed to go potty. He did really well. He only had 2 1/2 accidents that day. How do you have 2 1/2 accidents? Well lets just say his eyes went really really wide while eating his lunch and he said "mom, I goin' poopy." What!!! I told him to run to the bathroom so he did, only half of his buisness ended up in the potty. Ohwell it was his first time. Thursday was really good. Only one accident and he would only need a little reminding, I think he was on a sugar high yesterday with all the rewards he got. Today, Friday is going great! I don't even have to remind him really. All the sudden he will stop playing and run to the bathroom and a few minutes later I will hear the little song the potty plays to alert there is a surprise waiting for me to clean up. I just have to go in and help him wash his hands and put his underwear back on. He is doing really well and I am so excited. Tomorrow we are going to have him go on the big potty. That means no more cleaning the dirty little training potty, that thing really grosses me out, I think I wipe it down with bleach about 3 times a day. Kallon is catching on pretty quickly. He is doing a lot better than I thought he would and he is so excited everytime he goes. This is dirty business but somebody's gotta do it, right!?

Oh Hooray Kallon! Yeah, potty training sucks. More than anything. Your mini potty has an insert that comes out right? That makes cleaning a little easier. You know what really sucks, it's not too long before I have to do Liam. Did I not just do this?!

The Property Manager in me wanted to die when you said and I quote "good thing it is just an apartment we rent" aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Do you know how many "good thing it is just an apartment we just rent" disasters I have to clean up every year!!

:) Now that I have given you a hard time...good job Kallon!!! Carter was doing so well for a few days and then fell off the wagon...so I stopped all together and we will try again in a few weeks. He will go when he wants to and it is convenient for him...but then other times just go in his pants or wherever...so I need to teach this boy some dedication and sticking to it!! I hope Kallon stays trained and just gets better...I think potty training has been the most unpleasant aspect of the last 2 1/2 years with Carter...blah.

So it is freezing here in my part of the South...what about you??

Just keep with it, consistency really is the best thing. Baking soda is your friend! We're not sure about violin lessons quite yet....she's in dance class already and I want to see how interested she is in violin before adding one more thing to her schedule (especially when my schedule teaching lessons is pretty crazy too). But I was wondering if your mom has ever taught this age group and if she still teaches or would consider it.

Good Job Kallon! Cash will go hide when he's going stinky and I'll ask him if he needs to go potty and he'll say "no". Frustrating. He's still not performed on the potty yet but I can't get him to sit there very long. Maybe if I put a movie on in the front room...good idea. Anyway, I made the same mistake with the diapers and I think I'll start this next week with pull-ups and no pants all week long - to make it quicker and easier to train. We'll see if I can make any progress. I just don't want to push it in case he's not quite ready. Who knows right?

They've just come out with a new thing so you don't have to potty-train your kids ... It's called kindergarten. ;)

Way to go Kallon!!
That's sounds just like what I did with Emma. Of course, she was older but oh well!
And definitely get a 2-step stool for the sink for him so you don't have to pick him up everytime, if you haven't already got one. There's one at Big Lots for $15 made out of wood, pretty good.
Anyways, good for you for tackling this! Especially when Kate is still so young!
